Israel’s Social Movement in a Security State 2011 witnessed the largest protest in Israel’s history as masses raised concern over the unbearably high cost of living. The discovery of gas reserves in the Mediterranean Sea brought about a massive uprising demanding a redistribution of profit. We will look at what provoked these protests in Israel, a security state, and at the history of the Left in the State of Israel. Joshua Tartakovsky is an independent journalist and an American-Israeli graduate of Brown University and the London School of Economics. He lived in Jerusalem and served as a combat medic in the Israeli Defense Forces.
